  • High density cursor system and method

A method for enhancing a mouse cursor is presented. During the mouse cursor update display cycle, a test on the current mouse speed is made. If the mouse cursor's speed exceeds a predetermined threshold, an enhanced mouse cursor is generated and displayed on the computer screen. According to one embodiment, an enhanced mouse cursor is generated by increasing the size of a standard mouse cursor in proportion to the speed of the mouse cursor. According to an alternative embodiment, an enhanced mouse cursor is generated by interpolating the mouse cursor's path and adding a motion-blur effect along the interpolated path. According to yet another embodiment, an enhanced mouse cursor is generated by interpolating the mouse cursor's path and a plurality of mouse cursor images are displayed along the interpolated path.

  • Display method for multiple layered screens

A method of displaying data or images on a multi-level screen display, assigns screen designation codes to respective software components, to determine the physical screen on which the corresponding images or software components are displayed. The screens may include layered liquid crystal displays. The method allows a user to see overlaying objects at the same time, e.g., toolbars or menus can be displayed on a front screen, and a drawing image can be displayed on a background screen.

  • Fonts with feelings

Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that improve the instructional nature of fonts and/or the ability to create instructional fonts. Font characters are modified based on user interaction to enhance the user's understanding and/or fluency of the word. The font characters can have sound, motion and altered appearance. When altering the appearance of the characters, the system operates on a set of control points associated with characters, changes the position of the characters, and changes the influence of the portion of characters on a set of respective spline curves. A designer or other user can customize the fonts and user experience by creating an episode package that specifies words to include in the user interface, and details about actions to take when certain events fire. The episode package can include media effects to play when a particular event associated with the media effect occurs.

  • Touch screen with user interface enhancement

The present invention is a graphical user interface in a computing device having a processor running an operating system and a display. The graphical user interface comprises a touch screen and a driver coupling the touch screen to the operating system. The driver can display a plurality of icons on the touch screen, or a plurality of screen images having at least one icon, with each of the icons associated with operations on the display and/or the touch screen. Other embodiments include the touch screen having unactivated and activated states, as well as the presence of an application programming interface that enables an application to display at least one image on the touch screen.

  • Device having multiple graphics subsystems and reduced power consumption mode, software and methods

Many computing device may now include two or more graphics subsystems. The multiple graphics subsystems may have different abilities, and may, for example, consume differing amount of electrical power, with one subsystem consuming more average power than the others. The higher power consuming graphics subsystem may be coupled to the device and used instead of, or in addition to, the lower power consuming graphics subsystem, resulting in higher performance or additional capabilities, but increased overall power consumption. By transitioning from the use of the higher power consuming graphics subsystem to the lower power consuming graphics subsystem, while placing the higher power consuming graphics subsystem in a lower power consumption mode, overall power consumption is reduced.

  • Decision support activation and management in product life cycles using a context pyramid structure

Techniques are provided for product life cycle management over an information network. More particularly, techniques are provided for decision support activation and management in accordance with a product life cycle management process such as a collaborative design process. In one aspect of the invention, a technique for managing at least one collaborative process performed in accordance with a first entity and at least a second entity, comprises the following steps/operations. Information associated with the at least one collaborative process is obtained. Based on at least a portion of the obtained information, an information structure (e.g., a context pyramid) representative of the collaborative process is dynamically maintained so as to assist at least one of the first entity and the second entity in managing at least a portion of the collaborative process.

  • Simulation parameter determination method

Provided is a method for reducing the amount of calculation time required for parameter determination, and for reducing the amount of calculation time required for parameter determination in satisfaction with a desired accuracy. The method includes preferentially selecting analysis objects, which are capable of providing parameter determination within a high degree of certainty, and controlling a calculation order of the selected analysis objects using a calculation order list.

  • Process plant monitoring based on multivariate statistical analysis and on-line process simulation

Disclosed are systems and methods for on-line monitoring of operation of a process in connection with process measurements indicative of the operation of the process. In some cases, the operation of the process is simulated to generate model data indicative of a simulated representation of the operation of the process and based on the process measurements. A multivariate statistical analysis of the operation of the process is implemented based on the model data and the process measurements. The output data from the multivariate statistical analysis may then be evaluated during the operation of the process to enable the on-line monitoring of the process involving, for instance, fault detection via classification analysis of the output data.

  • Method for adjusting operating frequency of an optical input device according to reference frame changes

A method for adjusting an operation frequency of an optical input device is introduced. The method includes capturing and setting a first image as a reference frame of the optical input device; capturing and setting a plurality of frames as a plurality of sample frames of the optical input device; analyzing the plurality of sample frames according to the reference frame; capturing a second image according to a predetermined rule and setting the second image as the reference frame of the optical input device instead of the first image; and adjusting an operation frequency of the optical input device according to a time interval between setting the first image as the reference frame of the optical input device and setting the second image as the reference frame of the optical input device.
