Talavera Cross
[TALCROSS006]
$22.00

This is a beautiful Talavera cross from Puebla Mexico. Brought to the indigenous people of the region by Spanish monks and missionaries in the 1500's Talavera pottery has become through the centuries one of the most recognizable styles in all the world. During the 16th century, Puebla was "Nueva Espania's" most important center of earthenware and its second most significant city over all, next to Mexico City. The abundance of quality white clay and the passion with which these new artists approached the style, helped make Talavera pottery become a monumental success and was exported throughout the continent. Now in the 21st century, Talevara pottery is one of the most collectible forms of ceramic art in all the world and is the oldest tin glazed pottery in all of America. This lovely cross measures 5 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" wide.
