Stone Akin, descendant of the Blackfoot tribe, is our newest featured artist. Proud of his heritage and the traditional arts that reflect his ancestry, Stone creates some of the most incredible pieces of authentic Blackfoot gourd art and jewelry we have ever had the priveledge of seeing. A retired architectural designer, he has displayed artistic talent and passion his entire life. As a youth he played lead guitar in a rock-n-roll band and began woodworking which led to furniture building which turned to carving which earnered him many nominations and prizes around the world. As he matured as a man and an artist, his work evolved and began more and more focused on traditional Native American themes and began to serve as an honouring and reflection of his heritage. Stone's work is shown in galleries throughout the Ozarks. Each of his gourds is a unique one-of-a-kind. Each image is meticulously burned into the gourds, which he grows and cleans himself. He then handpaints each using traditional historically accurate themes and images.
